American University Park Real Estate Guide


American University Park is a neighborhood of Washington DC. It borders Montgomery County of Maryland, and due to the similar nature of its high-end residential estate, it is often lumped together with Bethesda, which has similar offerings in terms of real estate.

Overview

American University Park, usually abbreviated as A.U. Park, was developed in the prewar years by the WC and AN Miller Development Company, a real estate developer which also developed the Bethesda neighborhoods of Sumner and Wesley Heights, amongst others.

Although named after American University, all of the university’s facilities except the Law School are located in adjacent Spring Valley.

AU Park falls within the Bernard T. Janney Elementary School school district. Most of the residents have lived in AU Park for decades, or even generations, and the neighborhood is considered to be home of a close-knit community.

One of the attractions of American University Park is Turtle Park, officially known as Friendship Park, a venue for playgrounds and sporting activities.

The suburban nature of the neighborhood and its proximity to downtown Washington DC have driven home prices near the seven-figure range. While expensive, homes in AU Park are still more affordable than real estate in Bethesda proper.
