Wood Acres (tax records will read Woodacres) is a neighborhood located in Bethesda, Maryland. It is bordered by Cromwell Drive to the east, River Road to the north, Goldsboro Road to the west, and Massachusetts Avenue to the south. Residential real estate in Wood Acres is much sought-after. The neighborhood is an easy commute to downtown Washington via River Road or Massachusetts Avenue by car or bus. It is a remarkably family-friendly neighborhood, where streets are generally calm and neighbors are all friendly with one another. A host of neighborhood events — from block parties to holiday parades — are held each year.

Because the Wood Acres Citizens Association actively guards the look and feel of the neighborhood with its process of ensuring that renovations will conform to the lovely style of the neighborhood, the flavor of the era remains to this day. Older homes, graced by a canopy of tree lined streets, a neighborhood park and school in walking distance are intrinsic to the value of the neighborhood. The park is a meeting ground for the toddler set and the baseball fields and tennis courts abound with activity for everyone, young and old!
Clustered around Wood Acres Elementary School, the area is a hub of practices, playdates and general good times for all…Albert Walker built the homes in Wood Acres in the 40s in the style of the day – solid brick exteriors, plaster walls, hardwood floors and deeded them to remain only colonials. There are few neighborhoods with this kind of conformity of style that remain in the area and as a result of this traditional feel and ideal location, the community is highly desirable.
It's easy to see why so many families have moved into these admittedly small homes and added on large additions to remain part of the community. A July 4th parade complete with fire engines, enthusiastically decorated bikes and floats created by streets all vying for best of the bunch! The picnic in the park draws from every community in the area as we all mingle and catch up, while the kids enjoy the moon bounces, train and renovated playground equipment.

Attendance is not to be missed even for those who have moved away with grown kids of their own now… Holiday parties…. Block parties… Newcomers gatherings… Halloween that begins with the Great Pumpkin at the Triangle and is the unofficial beginning of the trick or treat parade of families up and down Welborn and the arteries that fan out from there. The community spirit harkens back to an era of small town Americana that Norman Rockwell captured so eloquently in his paintings…
For many life here is reflected in the traditions that have endured for decades as families grow and children buy homes right where they grew up. What better testament to the power of community than that? Wood Acres is near two shopping areas: the Westbard Shopping Center, with a supermarket, coffee shop, drug/convenience store, and other assorted specialty shops. The Shops at Sangamore is also nearby, along Sangamore Road—again, with grocery, bakery, Chinese restaurant, and other small-scale retail establishments.
Wood Acres Elementary School (K-5, Montgomery County Public Schools) is within walking distance from any point in Wood Acres. Other cluster schools include Thomas Pyle Middle School and Walt Whitman High School. In 2009, the median home sold price in Wood Acres was $814,500. The Wood Acres real estate market is made up of 436 family-oriented 1940's homes. Many owners have opted to renovate and/or add significantly to the square footage of their homes over the years to meet their changing needs, rather than move; a testament to the great quality of living and convenient location of the neighborhood.
